One of the two, recently revamped championship Courses (the other being the open qualifying Torrance course ) owned and operated by the Fairmont Hotel Group.
They are both perched atop a spectacular cliff formation, with breathtaking panoramic views over the Tay estuary and the ancient medieval skyline of St. Andrews.
The course takes its name from a dramatic and deep ravine which winds its menacing way throughout.
There are two, American style, man-made lakes, but the course remains true to St. Andrean golf values with many deep pot bunkers and confusingly contoured greens.
The length choice is a masochistic 7000 plus or a more sensible 5200yds from the forwards.
